Pastor Matthew Bode

Pastor Bode first came to Trinity Episcopal and Faith Memorial Lutheran in the summer of 2002, before the creation of Spirit of Hope.  Through the call of the Spirit he has helped to lead the new congregation into what promises to be an amazing, God-inspired future.  He can be reached by telephone (313-964-3113) or email  (urluved@sbcglobal.net) and is always open to appointments to meet new people. 

A native of the Milwaukee area, Pastor Bode is a graduate of Wartburg College in Waverly, IA and Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, IA.  He has spent time studying in Morogoro, Tanzania as well as Union Theological Seminary in New York City. 

A resident of the neighborhood, our pastor has a passion for the City of Detroit, issues of justice and preaching in a spirited way.  The pastor is active on the board of the Greater Corktown Development Coroporation, the Corktown Residents’ Council, the Corktown Citizens’ Patrol, the City of Detroit Chief’s Advisory Board, Central District Community Policing, Acts in Common, the Evangelism, Outreach and Congregational Mission Program Committee of the ELCA, the Metropolitan Organizing Strategy Enabling Strength (M.O.S.E.S.), campus ministry for Wayne State University as well as other civic and community events.  He has also been available for numerous mentoring and spiritual education programs regarding the uplifting of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered and Queer persons.
